O'Neil tried out for her third series of Canadian Idol in the early year of 2005, while at high school. She advanced to the top 100 round since the judges were impressed at her singing performance. O'Neil was given high praise by the judges but suffered substantial losses during the top 10 weeks as well as the Top 9 of the Finals in which she was relegated to the bottom 3 and bottom 2 respectively.
